174. The Deviousness of LittleDavyTwo

A little praise goes an awfully long way.

The other day LittleDavyTwo said “Dad, I think you’ve really mastered the art of the bacon buttie.”

Which is true: fresh ciabatta with a smear of butter and mayonnaise, loin bacon not too fatty or lean, seared hot.

Don’t do the lettuce or tomato thing, which is simply pandering to the 5-A-Day crowd and detracts from the essential baconness of the experience. If you want healthy, what the hell are you doing making a bacon buttie anyway?

Anyway, that freely given compliment earned her a hug, and gave me a warm glow of pride and satisfaction for the rest of the afternoon.

Until I remembered that one of her favourite movies is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

I now realise that I’ve been played like a Stradivarius, and as a consequence I will have a life of making bacon butties on demand.

About Ned Davy

By hokey, the big fella’s tipped into his 50s. A rangy loose forward in his prime, good with the ball in hand, but rarely up with the play any more.
